Plan your Bali trip

Planned and visited multiple times. I love it enough to now be considering moving there.

Bali

Multiple visits, each one deeper.

Not a guidebook reader — someone who has been, returned, and gone deeper each time.

First visit

Arriving curious, a little overwhelmed, seeing this side of the world for the first time. And a surprise engagement.

Second visit

Bringing my mum to feel the magic for herself. She loved it exactly as we did.

Most recent visit

Revisiting Gili Islands, trying surfing for the first time, and visiting a local village in Lombok with our (now) local friend.

The feeling of it

Bali has a soul.

The people are the kindest I've ever met — not because they want something from you, but because that's how they live: slowly, humbly, in deep respect for the land and each other.

The first time I went I was changed by it, and every time I leave I feel a part of myself stay behind as I return to a faster, harder-edged world.

That feeling — calm, alive, deeply present — is what I'd want to build into your trip.

How I planned it · 14 days

The shape of the trip.

Jimbaran2 nights
Land softly, beat the jet lag with a golden sunset by the ocean.
Gili Meno5 nights
Slow down by the ocean. Swim with turtles and talk with locals.
Canggu7 nights
Lively base, private-pool villa. Beach club celebration.
Ubudday trips
The jungle, waterfalls, healing and old local traditions.
Who this trip was planned for Planned for a couple — but I'd recommend it for families and groups too.
Good to know before you go
Planning tipArrival pacing matters more than people thinkJimbaran first, not straight into Canggu's energy.
Planning tipChoosing the right Gili Island mattersTrawangan is the party, Meno is the honeymoon, Air is the mix — pick the wrong one and the whole trip feels off.
Planning tipEvery area of Bali has its own characterA good plan uses that — energy, then jungle, then ocean — rather than treating it as one place.

Come gently.

Bali is safe, beautiful, and fragile now that so many visit. Respect the locals, their customs, and their rules — support the people who make this place what it is. Travel here the right way and Bali gives it all back.
